You and up to three guests will accompany biologists and Conservation Northwest staff into the ancient forests of the Cascades to witness a truly once-in-a-lifetime event: the release of the Pacific fisher back into the wild. This state-endangered species was once widespread throughout Washington, but was decimated by overtrapping and loss of old-growth forest habitat. Together with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, National Park Service, and others, Conservation Northwest has successfully reintroduced fishers to the Olympic Peninsula and Washington’s South Cascades. Now we’re bringing this native species home to the North Cascades. Releases will occur December-March at road-accessible sites within North Cascades National Park and Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Though multiple release dates will be made available to you, given the careful nature of responsibly transporting and releasing wild animals advance notice is limited and some scheduling flexibility is required.
Join Conservation Northwest's Paul Bannick to search for, and possibly photograph, owls or other wildlife at one
of his favorite haunts! This is a unique opportunity to get some inside tips on
how to track down and capture the beauty of our region's
wildlife. Paul is an award-winning author and wildlife photographer whose
work can be found in publications from National Geographic, New York Times,
Audubon, Smithsonian, Natures Best Photography and many others. Whether you are
looking to expand your photography skillset or to spend time with a seasoned
nature photographer in his element, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you
can't pass up! Also included is a gorgeous 24" wide x 16" tall signed and framed
print by Paul Bannick, in which a
fledgling Great Gray Owl pauses atop a snag under the canopy of mature
fir and pine and amidst the lupines in Okanogan County, Washington.
One of Conservation Northwest’s long-time partners in our Range Rider Pilot Program, the Gotham Ranch, is inviting you and up to two others to come see firsthand what ranching in the Kettle Mountains is like. You will spend a day riding along in his pick-up with rancher Bryan Gotham to learn about his efforts to minimize wolf conflicts. Over a hearty picnic and dinner, you will also get to speak with wolf-livestock relations experts about minimizing wolf impacts, wolf tracking, and the history of the issue. At dusk, you will journey away from the ranch to talk with other range riders and attempt to howl up some wolves in nearby packs. Included are two nights at K Diamond K Guest Ranch in Republic so you can take your time exploring the beautiful landscape and wildlife of the Kettle Mountains.
